The Mis-understanding of Choosing LED Lighting

In 2011, China National Development and Reform Commission announced that 100W or above incandescent will be forbidden to be brought onto market since 1st October,2012. Lighting industry is in the critical period from traditional lighting to LED lighting. With further LED lighting support policy from government, LED light industry will have rapid growth and will will gradually replace all incandescent lamps.

With the rapidly increasing living standards of the Hohhot residents, people now pay more attention to healthy life and envirement. For lighting, consumers prefer products which is more energy-saving and envirment friendly. LED lights with hign efficiency、longlife span will definitely will be common used.

We found that people are willing to accept LED lights, but except for the high cost of LED lights, they still have many concern and mis-understanding when they choose the LED lights.

Mis-understanding 1: equivalent wattage of LED lights to incandescent lamp

Answer: Since we normally mention the wattage instead of luminous when we buy incandescent lamp, people will ask how many wattage LED light can be replacement of 100W incandescent lamp. This is incorrect way. As the luminous/W of LED lights is still growing, wattage can’t refer to same luminous. So some factories find a good way to mark on the lights with “40W incandescent lamp replacement” to help consumer with right selection. 

Mis-understanding 2： Higher wattage, higher brightness.

Answer: We judge LED light’s brightness based on output luminous instead of wattage. LED lights with higher luminous saves more engergy. We can take 5W and 6W LED bulb lights as example, if 5W LED bulb light can give higher output luminous then 6W, then we can say 5W LED bulb is more energy-saving.

Mis-understanding 3：More LEDs, Higher brightnes, Higher cost

Answer: Different LED chips will have different technology which makes their single luminous different. There are high power LED、 middle power LED、lower power LED、and COB LED in the market. Middle power LED outputs 45lm/pc while high power LED output 120lm/pc, so 1 pc LED may have same luminous as 3pcs have. However, high power LED will cost more then middle LED. So the cost performance of LED light will mainly decided by it’s components’performance.
